The Izumo ( Japanese い ず も ; DDH-183) is a helicopter carrier of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Forces put into service on March 25, 2015 and the type ship of the Izumo class . The name was taken from the historical province of Izumo .
construction
The Izumo was laid down in the shipyard of Japan Marine United Corporation , a subsidiary of IHI , in Yokohama on January 27, 2012. It was launched on August 6, 2013 and its home port is Yokosuka .
