Hull and drive

The hull of a Takanami-class destroyer is 151 meters long, 17.4 meters wide and has a draft of 5.3 meters with a maximum displacement of 6,300 tons. In terms of displacement, they are therefore comparable to the German frigates of the Sachsen class . It is powered by four gas turbines - two Kawasaki Rolls Royce Spey SM1C and two Ishikawajima Harima - General Electric LM-2500 - with a total output of 60,000 hp (44,130 kW). The power is delivered to two shafts with one screw each. The top speed is 30 knots (56 km / h).

Armament

The armament consists of a 127 mm gun in length 54 caliber from Oto Melara and a Mk 41 Vertical Launching System with 32 cells. This is divided into sixteen cells for anti-submarine missiles of the type RUM-139 VL-ASROC and sixteen cells for ESSM guided weapons (with four guided missiles per cell). There are also two triple torpedo tubes of the type Mk. 32 SVTT for Mark 46 lightweight torpedoes and two close-range defense systems of the type Phalanx . A Mitsubishi SH-60 helicopter is carried for submarine hunting and other tasks .
