János Aladár Fehérváry (born April 4, 1977 in Vienna ) is an Austrian journalist , publicist and former diving athlete .

education

Fehérváry was a Vienna Boys Choir , later graduated from Realgymnasium Kandlgasse / Vienna and studied political science, history and economics at the University of Vienna , although he did not complete these studies. He did his military service with the Austrian Jagdkommando and completed the 27th basic course in 1997.

Journalistic career

In 1999 he founded the youth magazine CHiLLi.cc and was its editor-in-chief and publisher until 2010 . He also worked in the editorial offices of the Kurier , the Wirtschaftsblatt and the press . Between the years 2002 and 2004 Fehérváry founded the youth press Austria with Susanne Hanger and during these years he played a major role in the founding of the European Youth Press .

From September 2011 to August 2016 he was head of the service at the daily newspaper Austria , where he was responsible for the free editions. In addition to his editorial management work, he was mainly noticed through extreme reports, such as a bungee jump world record over 192 meters in Vienna in 2013 or a Siberia winter report in 2012.

On September 1, 2016, he switched to oe24.tv as head of service and was part of the key founding team together with Christina Happel, Wolfgang Fürweger , Tobias Kühn, Marcel Schachinger and Werner Stolarz - he was primarily responsible for building up the structure. On January 27, 2017, Fehérváry was terminated and released from work by oe24.tv managing director Niki Fellner immediately after Fehérváry announced that he would be setting up a works council, which led to media coverage and an outcry in the industry. Apparently, Fehérváry agreed to a mutual separation in mid-February 2017 when, in return, the union and the works council of the Austrian daily newspaper set up a joint works council for all media channels of the Austrian media group with the approval of the owners .

Sports

In addition to his journalistic activities, Fehérváry is multiple Austrian state champion in fin swimming and distance diving . He holds the Austrian records for 100 meters distance diving as well as in the 4 x 100 meter and 4 x 200 meter fin swimming relay and achieved numerous international successes. In addition, Fehérváry was sports director and vice president of the Austrian diving association from April 2011 to September 2014 - on October 20, 2012, he took over the management of the association as interim president. In September 2014, Fehérváry resigned from all of his national functions of the TSVÖ due to a dispute over sports policy. From April 2013 to January 2015 he was a member of the fin swimming commission of the international diving association CMAS .
