János Czifra

János Czifra (* 24. December 1951 in Budapest ) since 1989 Domkapellmeister on Dom to Salzburg .

biography

Czifra passed the Matura at the Piarist High School in Budapest . He then studied architecture at the Technical University of Budapest and obtained a diploma . In 1977 he received a place at the Franz Liszt Music Academy , for choir conducting and music education. Two years later, Czifra won first prize in the college's choir directing competition; the following year he finished his training in Budapest with a diploma.

After his diploma, Czifra continued his studies in the conducting class of Gerhard Wimberger at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. After his diploma concert he went back to Budapest in 1982 and worked there at the Györ State Theater . At the same time he worked as a choirmaster in the parish of Szent Imre and as a music teacher in the Franciscan high school in Szentendre.

In the same year Czifra married the musician Regina Glaser , who works as a harpist with Tobias Reiser's ensemble in Salzburg. That same year, Czifra moved in with her and had four children. Between 1983 and 2000 he was church music advisor for the Archdiocese of Salzburg . He completed his church music studies at the Mozarteum , in addition, Czifra worked with various ensembles.

In 1987 Czifra took over the direction of Salzburg Cathedral Music, after two years he was definitively appointed Cathedral Kapellmeister, who has to lead the cathedral choir and cathedral orchestra. From 1989 to 2004 Czifra conducted the Salzburg Liedertafel , whereby the artistic goals of this activity also included an oratorio to be performed annually.

In 2002 Czifra was admitted to the European Academy of Sciences and Arts . He also received the professional title of professor from the Federal President.
