János Vaszary

János Miklós Vaszary (born November 30, 1867 in Kaposvár , Austria-Hungary ; died April 19, 1939 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian painter and professor of painting .

Life

After studying with Bertalan Székely , among others , at the School of Painting in Budapest, he completed his skills in Munich and at the Académie Julian in Paris . There he was particularly influenced by artists such as Jules Bastien-Lepage and Puvis de Chavannes . After the First World War , in which he also painted paintings of soldiers, Vaszary was art professor at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest from 1910 to 1932 , where he supported the trends of the avant-garde in the performing arts.

One of his students from 1920 to 1926 was the Hungarian painter Jenő Barcsay .

Vaszary's work was subject to some stylistic changes. His pictures sometimes showed social aspects, were at times influenced by French styles, by Fauvism and Matisse , sometimes Dufy and Van Dongen are visible. After his stay in Paris he painted cityscapes and took a liking to Expressionism .
