Järnforsen is a place ( Tatort ) in the Swedish province of Kalmar län and the historic province of Småland . The place is in the municipality of Hultsfred .

history

It was the Emån river that enabled the town to develop early on in terms of industry. An important event was the inauguration of the Vetlanda - Målilla railway in 1906 . Traffic ceased in 1961, but in 1987 a new line was opened, the Emådalsbanan, which connects the industry within Vetlanda - Järnforsen - Pauliström. The trains no longer go to Järnforsen, traffic ends in Kvillsfors .

Traces of settlement have existed since 6000 BC. The place was named for the first time in 1337 as Öaerithe and since 1355 the spelling Järhida can be found. The church, Järeda Kyrka, was built in 1771 and stands in the same place where a wooden church used to stand.

Fröreda Storegård (one kilometer outside), an old manor, is a monument with unique, hand-painted wallpaper and remarkable interior paintings. A few kilometers to the west is Kungsbro , where Gustav II Adolf fought one of his first battles in 1612. That summer, Klövdala was burned down by the Danes, but the villagers fled to a nearby cave.

With farmsteads from the 19th century and a well-preserved cultural landscape, the villages in the immediate vicinity of Skinnskälla, Högeruda, Slättemossa and Ryd are of national interest as cultural monuments.

In the mid-1980s, it was found that large amounts of the environmental toxin PCB were flowing from Järnsjö near Järnforsen into the Baltic Sea , the source of which was a paper mill upstream. 1993-1994 a pilot project was carried out in which the lake was rehabilitated with the help of suction dredgers . The sediment is now deposited to the west of the now clean bathing lake.

economy

The place has many companies and many people from the surrounding area commute to work in Järnforsen. There is a grocery store, a flower shop, a restaurant and school, a gas station and a kindergarten in the village. There are two bathing spots at Järnsjö and in the village. Canoe rental for boat tours on Emån is possible (petrol station and bed and breakfast). Other leisure activities are climbing tours and forest hikes.
