Mörlunda is a town in the Swedish province of Kalmar län and the historic province of Småland . The place is in the municipality of Hultsfred .
history
Mörlunda means something like "moor forest" and was first mentioned in 1339. The settlement of the Emån Valley (Emådalen) around Mörlunda has a long history. Settlements in this open landscape have been continuously documented since the Stone Age to this day. Archaeological finds, graves, prehistoric roads and traps, holy springs, cinder mountains (iron extraction) are witnesses of the eventful past of this area. At the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th centuries, the Danish army destroyed and burned the place. The church of Mörlunda was built in 1845, in the same place where earlier, very old churches stood. In the 19th century, markets were held in Mörlunda and the economy flourished. There was a potash factory, mills, sawmills and furniture factories.
In a public park, old, remarkable buildings from Mörlunda are saved from decay.
geography
Mörlunda is located in southern Sweden in the eastern part of the Småland highlands in a forest and lake landscape between the Emån river and the Våmmesjö and Lillesjö lakes, about 20 km south of the town of Hultsfred. The Emån is considered to be the most biodiverse river in southeast Sweden. The most famous fish species in Emån include catfish, salmon, sea trout and char. The river is also known internationally for its fishing opportunities and for its canoe tours (of varying degrees of difficulty).
