Hultsfred is a place ( tätort ) in the Swedish province County Kalmar and the historical province of Småland . It is the capital of the municipality of the same name .
Historically, the name comes from old Swedish and means "forest peace".
Culture
Hultsfred became internationally known through the Hultsfredfestival, the former largest music festival in Sweden. After the bankruptcy of the organizer in 2010, the festival took place two more times in Hultsfred with the new operator FKP Scorpio. Since 2013 there has been an annual large festival in Hultsfred under the new direction under the name "This is Hultsfred". There are numerous other music events in town, for example “Mörkaste Småland” for metal , “Rookie” for newcomer bands , “Popkollo” workshops for girls and women, as well as many concerts in the Hotel Hulingen and in the RockCity house.
Attractions
The place is the end point for a narrow-gauge museum railway to Västervik , the Hultsfred – Västervik railway line . The 70 km long journey leads through Ankarsrum through a landscape rich in lakes. The continuation of the route originally leading to Växjö can be driven with trolleys for 12 km (to Målilla sanatorium) .
