Jérôme Louis Cardinal Rakotomalala (born July 15, 1914 in Sainte Marie , Madagascar , † November 1, 1975 in Antananarivo ) was Archbishop of Tananarive .

Life

Jérôme Rakotomalala received his theological and philosophical training in the regional seminary of Ambotaraka in Madagascar. He received on 31 July 1943, the sacrament of Holy Orders , and then worked as a parish chaplain in Antananarivo. From 1946 to 1960 he taught at various seminars and schools and as vicar general headed the administration of the Archdiocese of Antananarivo.

On April 1, 1960, Pope John XXIII appointed him . to the Archbishop of Tananarive and ordained him episcopal on May 8 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were Bishop Napoléon-Alexandre La Brie , Director of the French-speaking Pontifical Missionary Organization of Canada, and Fulton John Sheen , Auxiliary Bishop in New York . Jérôme Rakotomalala took part in the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 and was on April 28, 1969 by Pope Paul VI. accepted into the college of cardinals as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria Consolatrice al Tiburtino . He died on November 1, 1975 in Antananarivo and was buried in the local cathedral .
