Jörg-Werner Mendel

Jörg-Werner Mendel (born September 12, 1962 in Münster ) is a German lawyer and acting President of the Federal Aviation Office (LBA).

Mendel grew up in Bonn , where he on the Beethoven-Gymnasium in 1981 his Abitur acquired. From 1972 to 1976 Mendel completed part of his school days in Gothenburg , Sweden . After graduating from high school, he did his military service in the Air Force until the end of September 1982 . Then he began the study of law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn , which he in 1988 with the first state examination completed. He completed his legal clerkship at the Cologne Higher Regional Court in 1991 with the second state examination. Mendel initially worked as a research assistant for a member of the Bundestag and in 1992 moved to the Federal Ministry of Transport as a consultant for aviation security. In 1994, Mendel had already worked for the LBA in Braunschweig for six months .

From 1994 to 1999 Mendel worked in several departments in the Ministry of Transport that dealt with shipping and shipping policy. In 1999 he became head of the working group on aviation security, which from 2002 onwards became a department in the ministry. From January 1, 2008, Mendel represented the Federal Republic in the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization ( ICAO ) in Montreal , Canada . The office located there is also subordinate to the Ministry of Transport.

On May 1, 2012, Mendel took over the management of the Federal Aviation Office as the seventh President. He was introduced to his office on April 26, 2012 by the State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Transport, Building and Urban Development (since 2013 Federal Ministry for Transport and Digital Infrastructure , BMVI) , Klaus-Dieter Scheurle .
