Jörg Blaurock (engineer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jörg Blaurock (* 1928 in Kolberg , Province of Pomerania ; † February 8, 2014 in Hamburg ) was a German shipbuilding engineer who made a name for himself as a specialist in the design, testing, design and construction of ship propellers .

Teaching and studying

Blaurock was born in Kolberg in 1928, obtained his secondary school leaving certificate and began an apprenticeship as a steel ship builder at the Brand Werft in Oldenburg, which was founded in 1850 . After successfully completing his studies, he studied shipbuilding at the construction and engineering school in Bremen (now the Bremen University of Applied Sciences ) and graduated in 1960 as a graduate engineer. He gained his first professional experience in the construction department of the Rendsburger Nobiskrug . In 1964 he began a postgraduate degree in shipbuilding at the Technical University of Hanover , which he completed in 1968 in Hamburg as a graduate engineer.

Working life and main research areas

In 1993 he switched to the Schaffran company in Lübeck as technical manager , which was founded as an engine factory in 1911 and became a propeller manufacturer in 1916 by Karl Schaffran . In this position he received power of attorney in 1994 and remained until retirement in 1998. Since his expertise was also in demand as a pensioner, he decided in 2008 to fill a gap as a propeller designer at Piening for a transitional period. This activity was expanded until 2012.

He was particularly interested in hydrodynamics , and at the Hamburgische Schiffbau-Versuchsanstalt (HSVA) he devoted himself to propeller construction, immersing himself in the areas of propeller wake and cavitation . About it he thought u. a. Lectures in front of the Shipbuilding Society (STG). He was involved in the highly acclaimed research work carried out by Harald Keil and Ernst August Weitendorf on the investigation of fractures in propeller blades.
