Jörg Freunschlag

Jörg Freunschlag (born December 16, 1942 in Bodensdorf, municipality of Steindorf am Ossiacher See ) is a former Austrian civil engineer and politician ( FPK , previously FPÖ / BZÖ ). Freunschlag was club chairman in the Carinthian state parliament and first president of the state parliament. Freunschlag was chairman of the supervisory board of the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences for 14 years until June 2020 .

education and profession

From 1948 to 1952, Freunschlag attended elementary school in Bodensdorf and then until 1960 the Perau grammar school in Villach . Then Freunschlag studied civil engineering in Vienna from 1960 to 1965 and in Munich from 1965 to 1968 . Freunschlag completed his training with the academic degree Dipl.-Ing. from and completed the military service in 1969.

Freunschlag worked in the Federal Republic of Germany from 1970 to 1974 and between 1974 and 1982 took over the construction management for sewer projects in the province of Carinthia.

politics

From 1979 Freunschlag was Vice Mayor of the municipality of Steindorf am Ossiacher See and between 1982 and 1985 held the position of mayor. Freunschlag was elected to the Carinthian state parliament in 1979 and took over the function of club chairman in the Carinthian FPÖ between 1982 and 1986. Between 1986 Freunschlag moved to the Carinthian regional government , where he was regional councilor for road construction until 1989 and regional councilor for trade, water law and energy between 1991 and 1994. In 1994, Freunschlag returned to the Carinthian Parliament and until 1999 took over the role of Second President of the Carinthian Parliament. As a result of Haider's resignation as FPÖ state party leader in autumn 1998, he became party leader of the Carinthian Freedom Party. November 2001 Martin Strutz replaced him from this position.

In 1999 he was elected First President, a role he played until he left the state parliament on December 13, 2006.

Freunschlag was a member of the Austria Convention from April 2004 to January 2005 . Within the party, he held the function of district party chairman of the FPÖ Feldkirchen from 1989 to 2003 . In addition, from 1998 to 2001 he was regional party leader of the FPÖ Carinthia. After the split in the FPÖ, Freunschlag, like almost all of the Carinthian state parliament members, moved to the BZÖ. After the split in the BZÖ, he moved to the FPK .
