Jörg Hofmann (violinist)

Jörg Hofmann (born March 12, 1939 in Langula ) is a German violinist and former violin professor in Freiburg im Breisgau .

Education and career

Jörg Hofmann completed his studies at the "Franz Liszt" University of Music in Weimar . He began his career as a member of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1961 to 1963. At the above-mentioned University of Music in Weimar, he held teaching positions as assistant, lecturer and professor until 1985. From his position there he was director of the Weimar Chamber Soloists from 1974 to 1985.

In 1985 he moved to the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg , where he was professor of violin and methodology and gave master classes in Germany and France until 1989. Concerts as a soloist with conductors such as Carl von Garaguly, M. Horvath and solo partner Igor Dawidowitsch Oistrach followed . With his ensemble, the Brahms Trio Weimar (see below), he was concertmaster at festivals in Sofia , Athens and Baden-Baden from 1970–1985 . Solo and chamber concerts in the Berlin State Opera , Hamburg Music Hall , Philharmonic Orchestra Petersburg , Moscow , Riga , Odessa , India , Pakistan and Iran , as well as appearances at the Wartburg Concert in Dresden and Eisenach are the most notable milestones.

To this day (as of 2006) the professor gives young school pupils and students private lessons in violin and viola and continues to celebrate successes with ongoing projects that are directly linked to the successes of his students.

Projects

His students continuously win prizes from his lessons. Prize winners among his students also take part in his prize winners concert at the St. Peter Music Days. Every year Japanese music students fly in for Professor Hofmann's master class.
