Langula is a part of the Vogtei rural community in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia .

geography

Langula is located on the western edge of the Thuringian Basin , approx. 7 km from Mühlhausen / Thuringia and approx. 20 km northwest of Bad Langensalza at an altitude of approx. 240 m (church). However, the district includes large forest areas of the Hainich in the west . With a summit height of 468.3  m above sea level. HN , the Winterstein at Hainich-Rennstieg is therefore Langula's highest point. The place is not far from the center of Germany .

history

On July 10, 1278, the place is first mentioned in a document. It belonged to the Dorla Bailiwick . Since 1643 the place was known in the field of church music care. Johann Sebastian Bach established closer relationships with the then cantor Adam Jakob Schröter in 1707 and met with him several times in the old school on the Anger. The neo-Gothic nave of today's church was built in 1842–45. From 1911 to 1969, the Vogteier Bimmel ran a 31.79 km long railway line from Mühlhausen to Treffurt through the Langula Valley in western Langula. The railway line has been preserved to this day. A section of the Unstrut-Werra cycle path, which is important for tourism in the region, runs along it . The municipality of Langula merged on December 31, 2012 with other municipalities of the Vogtei administrative community to form the new municipality of Vogtei.

The St. George's Church, built from 1842 to 1845 and restored in 2004/2005 , the village green with a war memorial and court table, and the scenic surroundings are all worth seeing . Hiking trails lead to the Lehdeborn , a contained spring on the western edge of the Hainich, and to the Lehdebornlinde . The protected summer linden is one of the distinctive trees in Hainich. On the Hainichkamm in the west, the Langulas district is cut by the Rennstieg , an old high altitude and today's regional hiking trail.
