Fritz Janson (born March 29, 1885 in Langula , † May 25, 1946 in Höngeda ) was a German local politician and Lord Mayor of the city of Eisenach .

Life

Janson comes from a Swedish family who emigrated to Germany in the 17th century. He attended school in Mühlhausen, Thuringia, and passed his Abitur there. From 1904 to 1908 he studied law and economics in Munich , Berlin and Göttingen . In 1911 he passed the first state examination in law and received his doctorate in 1913 at the University of Göttingen . After working as a lawyer and notary representative in Mühlhausen and Berlin, he became a magistrate's assistant in Zeitz . He completed his military service in Potsdam and was seriously wounded as a reserve officer in World War I. After completing his military service as captain of the reserve at the General Command of the Army in Kassel , he joined the Eisenach city administration in 1919.

Janson was married and had two children. He died on May 25, 1946 at the age of 61 in Höngeda and found his final resting place in Eisenach's main cemetery , where his honorary grave has been preserved.

Act

In June 1919 he was first second mayor of Eisenach, and on October 12, 1919 he was appointed mayor. He was a member of the German People's Party and was considered a close confidante of Gustav Stresemann . The transfer of the Wartburg to a foundation is regarded as the greatest achievement of his tenure . After Grand Duke Wilhelm Ernst , whose private property included the Wartburg, was forced to abdicate and expropriated in 1918, the question of ownership of the castle was unclear. After lengthy negotiations it was possible to transfer the castle to a foundation under public law, the first chairman of the foundation council was Janson.

Janson was also a sponsor of Eisenach's economy: During his tenure, BMW took over the shares in the Eisenach vehicle factory and the power plants became municipal property. He was on the board of directors of the Carl Alexander Foundation and founder of an educational institution for Protestant theologians, Hainstein AG . During his tenure, Eisenach had a busy construction period. a. the Ernst Abbe School and the municipal hospital were built. From 1934 the National Socialists tried several times to force him out of office, which finally succeeded in 1937.

On March 31, 1937, Janson was sent into retirement with an honorary citizenship certificate . The official justification for the replacement was Article 44 of the German municipal code , which recommends a change in administrative staff in order to give administrative work new impetus. With Janson, the senior building officer and mayor Karl Hofferbert , city treasurer Eckel and city councilor Sachse left office with the same reason .
