Hans-Peter Brodhun

Hans-Peter Brodhun (born October 29, 1955 in Weißenborn-Lüderode ) is a German local politician ( CDU ). He was mayor from 1990 and from 1994 to 2000 lord mayor of the city of Eisenach in Thuringia .

Life

Brodhun was born in 1955 as the son of a miner in Weißenborn-Lüderode in Eichsfeld . After he passed his Abitur in 1974 in Worbis , he first made a diploma teacher qualification for biology and sport and then took up research studies at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena , which he obtained in 1987 with a doctorate in Dr. rer. nat. completed. In 1984 he took up a position as deputy head of the plant quarantine station at the Wartha border crossing , later becoming its head. This activity ended when the border crossing point was closed in early 1990.

Brodhun is a second marriage and has two children. He lives in the Hörschel district of Eisenach .

Political career

Brodhun joined the CDU in 1974 , which put him up as a candidate for the office of mayor in the first free local election on May 6, 1990 . On May 31, 1990, the newly constituted, first freely elected city council elected him as the new mayor and thus the successor to Joachim Klapczynski ( LDPD ), who has been in office since 1974 .

As the first freely elected mayor of the city of Eisenach after the end of the GDR, it was up to Brodhun to completely rebuild and structure the city's administration, to create a new economic basis for the city, to maintain it as an automobile manufacturing location and to tackle the decades-long investment backlog in the city .

During his tenure, among other things, the Opel factory in Eisenach was able to settle in the city. A highlight of his tenure was the visit by US President Bill Clinton in Eisenach in May 1998.

For health reasons, Brodhun did not stand in the local elections in 2000 , and was succeeded by his party friend Gerhard Schneider . After his time as mayor, Brodhun worked, among other things, as chairman of the Lions Club Wartburg-Eisenach and from 2004 to 2012 he was chairman of the Friends of Summer Profit Eisenach eV In February 2003 he was awarded the Thuringian Order of Merit .
