Sigfried Möckel

Fritz Sigfried Möckel (born February 16, 1923 in Jauer , Lower Silesia ; † October 7, 1987 in Eisenach ) was a German functionary of the GDR block party LDPD and from 1961 to 1974 mayor of Eisenach.

Life

Möckel was born as the son of the commercial employee Fritz Möckel and his wife Margarete (née Ludwig) in Jauer, Lower Silesia. He was badly wounded during the Second World War . After training as an industrial clerk, he began studying public law and economics by distance learning from 1957. Möckel was married from 1945 until his death and had five children.

Political career

Möckel became a member of the LDPD in 1947 and worked there, among other things, in the central board and full-time in the secretariat. From 1952 to 1953 Möckel was an employee of the council of the Geithain district , from 1953 deputy chairman of the council of the Borna district and from 1954 deputy chairman of the council of the city of Leipzig .

In 1961 he was appointed mayor of the city of Eisenach. The triple jubilee celebrated in 1967 “900 years of Wartburg ”, “450 years of Reformation ” and “150 years of fraternity meeting ” was the high point of his tenure; for his services in preparation and implementation he received the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze. He had to resign from office in 1974 for health reasons. Joachim Klapczynski became his successor .

From 1962 to 1979 Möckel was Vice President of the German City and Municipal Association .
