Matthias Doht (born July 3, 1958 in Eisenach ) is a former German local politician of the SPD and was Lord Mayor of the Thuringian city ​​of Eisenach from 2006 to 2012 .

Short biography

After graduating from the Ernst Abbe High School in Eisenach in 1977 , he did military service in the NVA until 1979. Doht then studied from 1979 to 1984 at the Technical University of Karl-Marx-Stadt - general mechanical engineering and construction technology and graduated as a qualified engineer . He then worked until 1990 as a designer for special machines at the Eisenach automobile plant .

Matthias Doht has been married to the former Thuringian member of parliament Sabine Doht since 1981 and has two grown children.

Political career

During the GDR era , Doht was non-party and tried in vain to campaign against two heating plant projects in his hometown at the municipal level. In October 1989, together with his wife and three friends, he founded the first social democratic initiative group in Eisenach, from which the SDP local association was founded on December 6, 1989 . He held the office of SPD city chairman until 1994. In the 1990 municipal elections , he was elected deputy mayor and full-time councilor for building, housing and transport in Eisenach. After an unsuccessful candidacy for the election of the mayor in 1994, Doht was then a member of the Eisenach city council on the opposition side, from 1999 to 2006 as chairman of the SPD city council group. In the 2006 election he was able to prevail in the second ballot against the incumbent Gerhard Schneider ( CDU ) and on July 1, 2006, he became mayor of the Wartburg city of Eisenach. In the April 22nd 2012 election , Doht was not re-elected and left local politics.

From March 2012 onwards, the public prosecutor's office investigated Doht on suspicion of taking advantage in connection with the construction of a private solar system. The preliminary investigation directed against Doht was discontinued according to § 170 (2) StPO, since Doht was able to prove that everything had gone right. Eisenach's former head of the building department, Gisela Rexrodt, had accused her then boss of taking advantage. In addition, Doht's mayor's office was searched by the Thuringian State Criminal Police Office in February 2012 as part of an investigation into a corruption offense. At the beginning of December 2013, the public prosecutor's office in Erfurt brought an indictment against Doht at the district court of Meiningen for aiding and abetting the acceptance of benefits in connection with a paid advisory activity of his former alderman which he tolerated. Again, Doht was acquitted, not for lack of evidence but for real reasons.

In protest against the election of Bodo Ramelow ( Die Linke ) as Prime Minister of Thuringia in a coalition of the Left Party, SPD and Greens, he resigned on December 6, 2014, exactly 25 years to the day after he was involved in founding the Eisenach local branch of the Social Democratic Party was involved, from the SPD.
