Jörg Hornik

Jörg Hornik (born November 13, 1957 in Ingersleben ) is a former German soccer player. From 1976 to 1988 he played for FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . Hornik is a multiple junior national player and played for the GDR Olympic soccer team.

Athletic career

At the age of nine, Hornik was accepted into the children's team at FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt in 1967. As a junior player, he played four international matches with the GDR junior national team in 1976 , in which he was used as a striker. During the 1974/75 season he played his first men's game in the second team of FC Rot-Weiß in the second-rate GDR league . Since the team had to relegate at the end of the season, Hornik played with her in 1975/76 in the district league .

For the 1976/77 season, the only 1.76 m tall Hornik was reported for the Erfurt top division team. Coach Gerhard Bäßler already used him in the first league game, where Hornik played as a left winger in the away game at Motor Zwickau . In the further course of the season, however, he was mostly a substitute in his following 15 league games, but already came up with four goals. Until 1981 Hornik did not get beyond the role of the substitute player, after his debut season he was used only 36 times in 104 Bundesliga point games in the following four seasons.

In May 1981 Hornik was drafted into the National People's Army for 18 months . He was able to continue to play football in the army sports community Vorwärts Neubrandenburg in the GDR league. He developed into a regular player and played all 29 point games until early November 1982. In the 1981/82 season he was 15 goals top scorer of the Neubrandenburg and the league relay A.

In November 1982 Hornik returned to FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt, where he completed 14 out of the remaining 16 league games and continued to prove his accuracy with four goals. By the end of the 1987/88 season he maintained a regular place as a striker in the Oberligaelf. In these five seasons with a total of 130 league games, Hornik played 116 games and was always successful with goals except for his last season in Erfurt. In his last season in 1987/88, as a 31-year-old, he only missed one point game. He came to the FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt on 184 league appearances and 27 goals. In April 1983 Hornik took part in a test match of the GDR Olympic selection against the Olympic team of the Soviet Union (1: 3).

Hornik moved to the East German league team Motor Weimar for the 1988/89 season , where he played 79 of 98 second division games by 1991. In 1988/89 he was again top scorer of his team with ten championship goals. Hornik ended his footballing career at FSV Sömmerda .
