Jörg Schmidt (born December 20, 1970 ) is a former German soccer player. He played first division football for FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt and Debreceni VSC . With Debrecen he became Hungarian cup winner.

Soccer career

Red and white Erfurt

Schmidt came in 1982 from the company sports association (BSG) Robotron Sömmerda to FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt , the football focus in West Thuringia. At the same time he became a student at the Erfurt children's and youth sports school . From 1987 to 1990 he was a striker in the squad of FC Rot-Weiß for the junior league, but was already used in the season 1987/88 in the league team . On May 14, 1988 he was in the encounter on the 24th match day Wismut Aue - FC Rot-Weiß (1-0) his first division debut as a substitute player in the 68th minute. FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt was eligible to play in the 2nd Bundesliga .

Schmidt's first professional season was relatively successful. With his 22 appearances in 32 games played, he was part of the expanded player base, but with his four championship goals he was not the most accurate attacker. His nine yellow cards and two field references were noticeable . In the four games in the 1991/92 UEFA Cup competition against FC Groningen (1-0, 1-0) and Ajax Amsterdam (1-2, 0-3), Schmidt was in all of them and scored the in the first game against Groningen Winning goal.

From Rostock to Debrecen

At the end of the season, Rot-Weiß Erfurt had been relegated, and Schmidt moved to the second division club FC Hansa Rostock after 65 league appearances with ten goals for the 1992/93 season . In Rostock he played 25 of the 46 point games, played only nine matches and only scored two goals. Between 1993 and 1995 Schmidt was a midfielder at FC 08 Homburg , also in the 2nd Bundesliga. In his first season in Homburg, he played only 124 minutes in five missions without scoring a goal. In 1994/95 he played 23 point games in the 34 game days, including twelve full-time appearances and one goal. In the summer of 1995 Schmidt moved to the third-class regional league at Dynamo Dresden . By the end of 1996 he had 47 league stakes and was able to prove his accuracy with nine goals. For the second half of the 1996/97 season Schmidt returned to the league competitor Rot-Weiß Erfurt, where he completed 14 games of the remaining 16 league games and scored three goals. From the 1997/98 season on, Schmidt played for Chemnitzer FC , initially in the regional league. In 1998/99 he was involved in promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga with 29 matches and three goals. The second division season 1999/2000 he played only in the first half of the season with seven games as a substitute with one goal. Then he was given to the regional league club VFC Plauen for the rest of the season. For the season 2000/01 Schmidt went abroad and played for the Hungarian first division club Debreceni VSC , with whom he was the Hungarian cup winner.

End of career

It was Schmidt's last season in higher-class football. From 2001 to 2003 he was active with the fourth-class league club FSV Zwickau , and in 2003/04 he ended his career as a football player with SV Fortuna Furth Glösa in the sixth-class district league Chemnitz.
