history

A synagogue in Raon-l'Étape was located on the Quai de la Victoire until 1849. Then a new synagogue was built, which was destroyed after the deportation and murder of the Jewish population in 1949.

The Jewish cemetery in Raon-l'Étape is the only evidence of the former Jewish community. It is located on Rue Aristide Briand and is right next to the municipal cemetery. The Jewish cemetery was established in 1861 and has around 200 gravestones ( Mazevot ). The oldest is for a buried person who died on October 5, 1865.

On the facade of the Raon-l'Étape town hall there is a plaque commemorating the murdered Jews.
