A Jewish community in Neufchâteau in the Vosges department in the French region of Lorraine had existed since the 18th century at the latest.

history

Neufchâteau had a large Jewish community in the 19th century and until World War II . The synagogue , built in 1805, was abandoned and the service took place in a private house.

National Socialist Persecution

On February 10, 1943, the Jewish population, including many who had fled Alsace and Lorraine, was interned in Camp d'Ecrouves (near Toul ). They were deported to the extermination camps via the Drancy camp and murdered.
