Jewish cemetery (Mackenheim)
The Jewish cemetery in Mackenheim , a French commune in the Bas-Rhin department of the Grand Est region , was laid out in the 16th century at the latest. The Jewish cemetery has been protected as a Monument historique since 2001 .
history
For a long time, the cemetery was used as an association cemetery by several Jewish communities in the area. Jewish communities east of the Rhine, such as Breisach up to 1755, buried their dead in Mackenheim. In the old part of the cemetery there are tombstones ( mazewot ) from 1669 to 1850. Burials continue to take place on the new part to this day.
The cemetery building and parts of the cemetery have been a listed building since 2001 . In the cemetery there is a memorial stone in memory of the victims of the National Socialist persecution of the Jews .
