Jewish cemetery (Angenrod)
The Jewish cemetery in Angenrod , a district of Alsfeld in the Vogelsbergkreis in Hesse , was built in the middle of the 18th century. The Jewish cemetery , located in Gewann Am Gerhardsgarten on the outskirts, is a protected monument .
history
The Jewish cemetery in Angenrod was built in the middle of the 18th century as a burial place for Jews from Alsfeld, Grebenau , Leusel , Ober-Gleen and Romrod . The entrance gate was rebuilt in 1897 on the basis of a donation from Regine Brill from New York . During the Nazi era , the cemetery was reduced by over half of its original area. Today the cemetery is 14.39 ares in size. The oldest gravestone is from 1842, the last burial was 1940 (Sally Abt). According to Ingfried Stahl, 201 tombstones ( Mazewot ) are still available today.
