The Jewish Cemetery Konstanz is a cemetery in the city of Konstanz in the district of Konstanz in Baden-Württemberg and belongs to the synagogue community Konstanz Kdö.R. It is a protected cultural monument .

The Jewish cemetery is located on Wollmatinger Straße, it is part of the main municipal cemetery in Konstanz and is to the right of its main entrance. The area of ​​the Jewish cemetery extends over three adjacent properties. These reflect the respective expansions in 1932 and 1981.

In 1994 there were a total of 388 tombstones .

history

Jewish cemetery in Konstanz, new part

The oldest part was documented from 1870 to 1945, it contains 281 tombstones. The newer part was occupied from 1932 to 1984, there are 91 tombstones on it. The newest part, which is still in use, has been in use since 1981. Up to 1994 16 Matzevot were set up here.

In the new part of the cemetery is the grave slab for the seven Torah scrolls that were damaged in an arson attack on the synagogue at Sigismundstrasse 19 in the city center in 1936. Behind it is a stone slab of the synagogue, which was preserved when the synagogue was set on fire and when it was forcibly blown up on November 10, 1938 .

administration

Since 2015 the Konstanz Jewish Cemetery has been under the administration of the Synagogue Community of Konstanz Kdö.R. In the event of death, the community rabbi, the synagogue community and the Chewra Kadischa Constance carry out all the tasks necessary for the funeral.

A cemetery gardener commissioned by the Jewish community is responsible for maintaining the cemetery. The cemetery is closed on Shabbat and on Jewish holidays.
