Jewish cemetery (Mayen)
The Jewish Cemetery Mayen is a Jewish cemetery in Mayen , a town in the Mayen-Koblenz district in Rhineland-Palatinate . The cemetery is a protected cultural monument and is located on Waldstraße, a cul-de-sac in a residential area.
history
The old Jewish cemetery on the edge of the forest at Schützenplatz was destroyed by bombs in 1944 and the remaining 31 tombstones , the oldest dating from 1640, of the cemetery leveled in 1945, were moved to the new cemetery.
The new Jewish cemetery in Mayen, which has an area of 20.42 ares , was first occupied in 1847 and the last burial was on July 28, 1942. A total of 203 tombstones ( mazewot ) are still present today.
