Jewish cemetery (Meddersheim)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Meddersheim Jewish Cemetery is a cemetery in the local community of Meddersheim in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The Jewish cemetery is located southeast of the village on the slope of the Dornberg near the so-called Mühlenwäldchen.

The 1358 m² cemetery, which was laid out in the first half of the 19th century and occupied until after 1933, contains around 40 tombstones from the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century. Most of the tombstones are probably not on the site of the associated graves.

For the first time in 1955, the cemetery was prepared and fenced in after 1945 with the help of state funds. With reference to the empty coffers of the place, the mayor and the municipal council refused to pay a financial contribution to the preparation of the cemetery. The cemetery was also prepared in 1973; Overturned or fallen tombstones were set up.
