The Jewish cemetery Wormersdorf is located in Wormersdorf , a district of the city of Rheinbach in the Rhein-Sieg district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). It is located south of the Tomburg in the forest and can be reached from the forest car park on a footpath.

history

The cemetery was the burial place of the small Jewish communities of Wormersdorf and Ipplendorf belonging to Rheinbach , for which 15 members are only recorded for the year 1880. There is no reliable knowledge of the time when this cemetery was built. It is believed that it was created as early as the 18th century, although no Jews lived in Ipplendorf and Wormersdorf before 1800 .

In 1895 the Prussian government in Cologne closed the cemetery and the Wormersdorfer Jews buried their dead in the Jewish cemetery in Rheinbach .

While ten tombstones ( Mazewot ) are attested after the First World War , today there are only three lying tombstones that will be overgrown in the foreseeable future. The cemetery, which was originally located on the edge of the forest, is not fenced and is more and more overgrown by nature.
