Jürg Neuenschwander (born January 14, 1947 in Siehen near Eggiwil , † March 23, 2014 in Bern ) was a Swiss organist and musician .

biography

Neuenschwander grew up in Langnau in the Emmental . He was trained as a primary school teacher at the State Seminar in Langenthal and at the State Music School Conservatory Bern with a teaching diploma and concert diploma for organ with Heinrich Gurtner. He graduated with a piano diploma from Janka Wittenbach-Brun in Basel . Neuenschwander also studied with Marie-Claire Alain in Paris and Michael Radulescu ( Vienna ).

From 1973 to 1987 he was a teacher for organ and piano at the State Seminar Muesmatt Bern and from 1984 in Lerbermatt near Köniz , from 1973 to 1978 organist and choirmaster at the Stadtkirche in Frauenfeld . Since 1979 he has been the organist and artistic director of the concert cycle at the Burgdorf town church . From 1982 to 1989 he worked as a freelancer for Radio DRS (now SRF ).

From 1987 to 2008 he was a teacher for organ and piano at the Gymnasium Hofwil and from 1995 to 2003 he was a state expert for diploma examinations at the music academies (conservatories) in Bern and Biel. Neuenschwander distinguished himself through intensive concert activity (radio and television recordings) as a soloist and as a companion at home and abroad. From September 2000 until his death in March 2014 he was married to the musician Sandra Tosetti Neuenschwander.

Discography

His specialty was the transfer of folk music to the church organ. A song booklet with three-part choral movements was published in 2011. Several CDs were published by Zytglogge Verlag, Oberhofen.

Honourings and prices

Among other things, he received first prize at the organ competition of Swiss television in 1973 and the prize of the Lions Club in 2003 as well as the cultural prize of the Burgdorf community in 2012 for his diverse work.
