Jürgen Fangmeier

Jürgen Fangmeier (born October 2, 1931 in Neuwied ; † February 8, 2013 in Mettmann ) was a German Evangelical Reformed theologian . From 1968 to 1994 he was professor of systematic theology at the Church University of Wuppertal .

Life

Fangmeier, son of the Protestant theologian and pedagogue Gerhard Fangmeier, studied Protestant theology , philosophy , psychology and education at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen , the University of Basel and the Kirchliche Hochschule Wuppertal. He completed his studies in 1958 with the First Theological Examination. From 1958 to 1964, Fangmeier was Custos at the Theological Seminary at the University of Basel and a religion teacher in Basel. In 1963 , Fangmeier received his doctorate from Karl Barth in Basel with the text Education in Testimony: Karl Barth and Pedagogy to Doctor theologiae .

After a three-year pastor's office in Riehen near Basel, Fangmeier was appointed to the chair for systematic theology at the Wuppertal Church University in 1968. Associated with the professorship was the pastoral office of the Evangelical Reformed community in Schöller in Lower Berg . He also held lectures and seminars on the Heidelberg Catechism , Johannes Calvin , Karl Barth , Job and on spirituality / ascetics at the Johanneum training center in Wuppertal . He was particularly interested in prison chaplaincy .

Jürgen Fangmeier was married to Erika Reusser since 1969. The funeral service followed by a funeral took place on February 14, 2013.
