Jürgen Friedenberg

Jürgen Friedenberg (* 1934 in Łódź ; † September 2, 2012 in Mainz ) was a German journalist and book author.

Life

Friedenberg grew up in Berlin and worked as a journalist from the age of 16. He studied economics (Dipl.-Volkswirt).

He worked for Tagesspiegel in Berlin, later for VDI-Nachrichten in Düsseldorf and from 1966 to 1998 for the Allgemeine Zeitung Mainz of the Rhein Main publishing group , where he most recently held the position of deputy editor-in-chief.

There he lived with his husband, worked as a journalist and wrote prose and poetry. The father of the family only came out in 1986, at the age of 52. In 2002 he published “Männerliebe pur. Erotic Poems ”, which also contains a gay man's prayer book with a few quick prayers as a protest against the condemnation of the state's recognition of registered partnerships by the Church. In 2006 he published the journalist novel “After the editorial deadline”, which has an autobiographical background. In addition, he participated in several anthologies and occasionally wrote socially critical comments. Since 2001, he has repeatedly participated with his own works in the literary evening , a meeting of gay literature lovers that has existed since 1996 and has been taking place monthly in Mainz and Wiesbaden since March 2000. In his article In love, engaged, married - and a little boldly he reported on the wedding of a girl from East Berlin and a student from West Berlin , which was planned for August 14, 1961 and the start of the construction of the Berlin Wall threatened to fail. For this, he was awarded 2nd place in the undoped writing competition Zeitzeugenpreis Berlin-Brandenburg 2007/2008.

In 1997 he co-founded the Streetmillboys , the gay hiking group from Wiesbaden . Friedenberg was a committed member of the Association of Lesbian and Gay Journalists (BLSJ) and the German Association of Journalists (DJV), which in 2007 awarded him the golden DJV badge of honor for 50 years of membership and commitment in the DJV. Jürgen Friedenberg died on September 2, 2012 in Mainz.
