Jürgen Hoffmann (political scientist)
Jürgen Hoffmann (born September 12, 1944 in Jerxheim , † September 29, 2009 in Hamburg ) was a German political scientist .
Life
Hoffmann did military service in the Bundeswehr in 1964/65 . He then studied political science at the Otto Suhr Institute at the Free University of Berlin (graduate political scientist 1970). In 1970 he co-founded the magazine PROKLA , of which he was managing editor from 1976 to 1980. In 1978 he started with Elmar Altvater in Faculty 15 (Political Science) with the dissertation Economic or Political Business Cycle? Economic cycle, state economic policy and trade unions in the Federal Republic for Dr. rer. pole. PhD. He then taught in Berlin, Marburg and Hanover.
In 1981 he completed his habilitation in political science at the University of Hanover . In 1982 he became professor of political sociology at the Hamburg University of Economics and Politics . In 2009 he retired for health reasons.
In 1997 he became an associate scientist at the European Trade Union Institute for Research . Hoffmann was a liaison professor at the trade union-related Hans Böckler Foundation and a member of the Groupe de Réflexion of the European Trade Union Confederation .
Jürgen Hoffmann died in Hamburg in 2009 at the age of 65. His grave is in the Dahlem Forest Cemetery in Berlin.
