Jürgen Steinrücke

Jürgen Steinrücke (born August 2, 1959 in Remscheid - Lennep ; † December 9, 2010 in Wuppertal ) was a German local politician ( CDU ) and full-time mayor of the city ​​of Schwelm .

Life

After graduating from school, Steinrücke did military service. From 1980 Jürgen Steinrücke studied chemistry and geography at the Ruhr University in Bochum .

1990 Steinrücke was at the Department of Geosciences at the Ruhr University Bochum with a dissertation on the subject of atmospheric input of nutrients and pollutants in a nature reserve in rural areas doctorate .

In 1997 he completed his habilitation in geography. As the subject of his habilitation thesis Steinrücke chose Changes in the northern hemispheric zonal circulation in the Atlantic European sector since 1881 and their relationship to precipitation frequencies in the Mediterranean and Central Europe . In the same year 1997 he was appointed private lecturer .

In 2005 he founded the fencing department in the largest Schwelm sports club, Rote Erde. For years he led the training on Saturdays. He taught the students and prepared them for tournaments.

Shortly before his death, he was honored for ten years of membership in "his" neighborhood of Winterberg.

Jürgen Steinrücke suffered a severe stroke on the evening of December 5, 2010 . Thereupon he fought for his life in the intensive care unit of the Helios Clinic in Wuppertal . Steinrücke died on December 9, 2010 at the age of 51 from complications from the stroke.

Mayor of the city of Schwelm

Jürgen Steinrücke (CDU) won the mayoral election of the city of Schwelm in 1999 against the incumbent Rainer Döring ( SPD ). In 2004 he was re-elected for a second term . After the local elections in 2009, the SPD politician Jochen Stobbe, supported by the Greens , was elected as his successor on August 31, 2009 in the Schwelm council chamber.

Jürgen Steinrücke was also a member of the district board of the CDU district association Ennepe-Ruhr and, as mayor, chairman of the city council of Schwelm. He also acted in various commissions, committees , supervisory boards and association meetings.

One of Jürgen Steinrücke's achievements during his tenure was the beginning of the town twinning with the French community of Fourqueux . There had been friendly contacts there since 1995, initially in the sporting field. In 2003 the Schwelm-Fourqueux Club was founded in Schwelm , and Jürgen Steinrücke was its president. The French counterpart is the Les amis des Schwelm club . The Steinrücke couple have since made many trips to the small town near Paris . Steinrücke was highly regarded there. In 2007 the town twinning document was signed.

On June 10, 2009, Jürgen Steinrücke received the Medal of Honor from the French Senate's President Gérard Larcher for this commitment .
