geography
Fourqueux is located about 25 kilometers from the city center on the western edge of the Unité urbaine of Paris . The place is located on the slope of a slight hill above the nearby Seine valley with a view of the neighboring town of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. In the west, the Forêt Domaniale de Marly-le-Roi is immediately adjacent , a wooded area with numerous hiking trails that extends over several kilometers and separates the urbanized metropolitan area of Paris from the rural surroundings. The Forêt Domaniale de Saint-Germain-en-Laye is just a few kilometers north of the municipality .
The neighboring towns are Saint-Germain-en-Laye in the northeast, Mareil-Marly in the east, L'Étang-la-Ville in the southeast, Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche in the southwest and Chambourcy in the west.
population
As recently as the early 1960s, Fourqueux had a population of less than 1,000 people. At the beginning of the 1970s and in the 1980s, the place experienced a strong influx, which caused the number of inhabitants to more than quadruple by the end of the millennium. Since the 1990s there has been a slight emigration again, but this is offset by a surplus of births, so that overall population growth is still continuing.
