Jürgen Weber (director)

Jürgen R. Weber (* 1963 in Hamburg ) is a German actor , director and author for theater and film .

Life

Jürgen Weber studied music theater directing in Hamburg with Götz Friedrich . For his diploma, he staged his own new version of Franz Lehar's Merry Widow . During and after his studies, he initially directed small documentaries and short films as well as advertising films and music videos. He later worked as a TV director and screenwriter for a long time. Since 2005 he has devoted himself more to music theater.

In 2008 Weber staged the late romantic opera excavation Die Rose vom Liebesgarten by Hans Pfitzner at the Chemnitz opera house using projections and ballet interludes in a multimedia style that was strongly influenced by popular culture. Instead of the usual surtitles, Weber uses text overlays that comment on the events on the stage on a meta level and sometimes ironize them. During the preparations for the Pfitzner production in Chemnitz, Weber experimented for the first time with a public online rehearsal diary in the form of a blog accompanying the production , in which the entire development process of the staging is disclosed to interested parties and put up for discussion. Weber has since pursued and developed this approach of an openly sought-after dialogue with the audience in his music-theatrical works. 2011 followed in quick succession with Robin Hood of Albert Dietrich at the Theater Erfurt another excavation of the late Romantic period, The Merry Widow by Franz Lehar at Mainfrankentheater in Würzburg as well as the much acclaimed box office hit the German premiere of Swan Hunter , one in 2009, first performed in English Leeds Chamber Opera From the pen of the contemporary English composer Jonathan Dove . In the latter production, Weber was responsible for the direction as well as the set and costumes in a creative all-round manner .
