Jürgen Weber (economist)

Jürgen Weber (born November 4, 1953 in Holzminden ) is a German economist. He holds a chair for controlling and corporate management and is director of the Institute for Management and Controlling (IMC) at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management .

Life

Weber studied business administration at the University of Göttingen and passed his diploma exam there in 1978. He then received his doctorate in 1981 under Wolfgang Männel at the University of Dortmund . In 1982 he went with his doctoral supervisor to the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg , where he completed his habilitation in 1986.

In the same year, as a university professor in private service, he took over the chair for business administration, in particular accounting and controlling, at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management . Academic positions include a rector's office , several vice-rectors' offices , the chair of the doctoral committee, the chair of the examination committee of the diploma program and the academic management of the bachelor's program.

Jürgen Weber also headed the Kühne Center for Logistics Management and the Arthur Andersen Center for External Accounting and Tax Law and, together with Utz Schäffer, has been running the Center for Controlling & Management (CCM) since 2000 - a partnership with major, well-known companies from the DAX 30.

In 2008, Jürgen Weber and Utz Schäffer founded the Institute for Management and Controlling (IMC) at WHU . This bundles the numerous teaching and research activities of both university professors and their doctoral students and stands for close cooperation with partners from science and practice. This is also where the WHU controller panel is located, which - founded in 2007 - has around a thousand active members and provides deep empirical insights into the development of controlling.

Jürgen Weber held visiting professorships at the University of Vienna (SS 1990) and the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WS 1999/2000). He turned down offers to the University of Mainz (logistics), the Vienna University of Economics and Business (controlling and corporate management) and the Technical University of Darmstadt (accounting and controlling).

Act

Jürgen Weber belongs to several scientific commissions of the Association of University Teachers for Business Administration and is co-editor of the Controlling & Management Review (CMR) magazine . From 2008 to 2020 he was chairman of the board of trustees of the International Controller Association (ICV). In addition, as a co-founder, he exercises the functions of co-partner and chairman of the scientific advisory board of CTcon GmbH .

Another focus of his work concerns the management and controlling of public institutions. Together with his student Bernhard Hirsch, he currently heads the steering and controlling working group in public institutions, which brings together almost twenty large organizations for the joint development and implementation of the idea of ​​impact-oriented control.

Jürgen Weber is the author of numerous publications in leading journals (such as Management Accounting Research , European Accounting Review , Journal of Management Control , Journal of Accounting & Organizational Change , Journal for Business Research , Journal for Business Administration ). He has accompanied around 150 dissertations and nine post-doctoral theses. The alumni include many university and technical college professors, company founders and managing directors of medium-sized and large companies.
