Jürgen Wick (born January 10, 1961 ) is a German sports scientist .

Life

Wick studied from 1982 to 1986 at the German University for Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig , his diploma thesis was entitled "Investigations to specify the course of action in the preparation, implementation and follow-up of biathlon shooting". In 1990 he completed his doctoral thesis at the DHfK (title: "Investigations into the position, the degree of expression and the training of reaction performance with regard to increasing the speed and accuracy of action when shooting in biathlon"). Until 1993, Wick was a scientific assistant under Klaus Nitzsche in the field of winter sports at the DHfK or, after its dissolution, at the newly established Faculty of Sports Science at the University of Leipzig . In 1994 he moved to the Institute for Applied Training Science (IAT), where he headed the biathlon department until 2004, before taking over the IAT endurance department in 2005.

As early as 1992, he worked in sports science for the German national biathlon team and looked after the athletes at the Olympic Winter Games in 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006 and 2010, among others. At the German Ski Association , Wick was from 2005 science coordinator of the national teams in biathlon and cross-country skiing.

Among other things, Wick prepared Olympic analyzes for the IAT and dealt with numerous research topics related to biathlon, such as the "objectification of running and shooting training in biathlon" and the training load. Across all sports, Wick looked at aspects of endurance sports such as young competitive sports, individualization in high-performance sports and competition and training systems in his research work.
