Juernjakob Timm

Jürnjakob Timm (* 1949 in Neubrandenburg ) is a German cellist and university professor. For over forty years he played in the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and in the Gewandhaus Quartet .

Live and act

Jürnjakob Timm studied from 1965 to 1970 at the Leipzig University of Music and especially the cello with Friedemann Erben. During his subsequent three-year aspiration , he won several international competitions.

In 1973 he became principal cellist in the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and in the same year he became a member of the Gewandhaus Quartet. In addition to his work in the orchestra, he also appeared as a soloist. He played with various orchestras in Europe, Japan, South America and the USA. Especially during Kurt Masur's time as Gewandhauskapellmeister, he played solo concerts with the Gewandhaus Orchestra. He performed at the Prague Spring Music Festival , at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival as well as in Granada and Ann Arbor . In 1993, Jürnjakob Timm was appointed solo cellist in the orchestra of the Bayreuth Festival .

In 1988 Timm was appointed honorary professor at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig. Since 1986 he has also taught in Japan as a visiting professor.

In 2014, Jürnjakob Timm said goodbye to the Gewandhaus Orchestra and Gewandhaus Quartet for reasons of age. He is now back as a guest of the latter.

Recordings

His extensive discography includes recordings of cello concerts as well as chamber music, for example the concerts by Robert Schumann and Peter Tschaikowski with the Gewandhausorchester, by Eugen d'Albert with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra , and Beethoven's Triple Concerto with Peter Rösel , Christian Funke and the Dresdner Philharmonie as well as Günter Kochan's 2nd cello concerto with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin , whose world premiere he also played.

In addition to 25 recordings with the Gewandhaus Quartet and solo pieces, such as Bach's Cello Solo Suites , there are numerous titles with various chamber music ensembles.

Two of Timm's sons are also musicians. Thomas Timm is first section leader in the second violin group of the Berliner Philharmoniker . Andreas Timm works as deputy solo cellist with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin .
