Jānis Blūms (born April 20, 1982 in Saldus ) is a Latvian basketball player . In the 2014/15 season, Blūms was under contract with the Greek club Panathinaikos Athens .
professional
The first stop for Blūms was BK Brocēni. After the bankruptcy of the club, he moved with most of the players to the successor club BK Skonto. After a season in Poland in 2003/04 with Anwil Włocławek , Blūms went back to Latvia to BK Ventspils . With Ventspils he became Latvian champions twice in a row and reached the semifinals of the ULEB Cup in 2005 . In the 2006/07 season Blūms played in Lithuania for Lietuvos rytas . With Rytas he won the Baltic League and reached the final of the ULEB Cup, which was lost to Real Madrid 75:87. After a year in Italy, Blūms moved to Spain to Bilbao Basket at the beginning of the 2008/09 season . With Bilbao he reached second place in the Spanish championship in the 2010/11 season and was used in all games of the season for Bilbao. After four years in Spain, he returned to Lietuvos rytas in Lithuania for the 2012/13 season. At the beginning of the 2013/14 season he signed a contract with BK Astana in Kazakhstan. He became the Kazakh double winner in 2014 and the best Latvian player in the VTB-UL .
National team
Since 1999 Jānis Blūms played for various junior national teams of Latvia. He was appointed to the Latvian national basketball team for the first time in 2002 . The 2005 European Championship was his first major adult tournament. After this tournament he took part in a basketball championship several times, namely in 2007 , 2009 , 2011 , 2013 . The 11th place at the EM 2013 was the best result achieved with Latvia.
