Live and act

Round came from a family of bankers in Colchester , was financially independent by nature and studied history (Modern History) at Oxford University (Balliol College). There the Regius professor William Stubbs was one of his teachers. He was Deputy Lieutenant and Lord of the manor of the county of Essex, which - although born in Sussex - he considered his true home.

He was considered an authority on Norman times in England and on genealogical issues for the British aristocracy and in 1914 he became an honorary advisor to the British royal family on genealogical issues. He also advised the House of Lords on issues relating to the coronation ceremony. He edited the Domesday Book for Essex, which was seen as a major historical achievement in which he clarified many dark points, and made numerous contributions to The Complete Peerage and the first edition of the Dictionary of National Biography .

He never married, was often ill, and was known to be militant among fellow historians and genealogists. In 1905 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Edinburgh.
