Jay Jay "JJ" Capelle (born January 7, 1984 ) is a former Nauruan sprinter . He represented his home country twice at the World Athletics Championships in 2003 and 2007 .

life and career

At the South Pacific Mini Games 2001 on Norfolk Island , Capelle failed both over 100 meters and with the Nauruan 4 x 100 meter relay , together with Richard Menke , Sebastian Detenamo and Odae Stephen each in the heats . In March 2003 he was the first Nauruer to take part in the World Indoor Championships in the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham , came in the seventh heat in 7.30 seconds, a new national record , but not more than eighth and last place; Overall, Capelle took 52nd place out of 56 participants. On August 24, 2003, at the World Championships at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis , Capelle originally finished sixth in the fifth heat over 100 meters in a time of 11.49 seconds - and fifth after the disqualification of Tim Montgomery two years later the Kiribati Kaewanteiti Mwatiera . In addition to Mwatiera, Assad Ahmadi (Afghanistan) and Zoran Josifovski (Macedonia), three of the 72 participants in the heats were slower than the Nauruer. At the Micronesian Championships in December 2005, Capelle secured bronze with Quaski Itaia , Fredrick Canon and Rikko Thoma over 4 × 100 meters and won the final runner together with Rosa Mystique Jones , Rikko Thoma and Dana Thoma in the mixed 800-meter relay (split in 100/100/200/400 m) the silver medal. Over 100 meters, Capelle had to admit defeat to his compatriot Rikko Thoma in a bronze photo finish.

In the third heat over 100 meters at the 2007 World Championships, which were held at Nagai Stadium in Osaka , Capelle finished sixth on August 25 in a time of 11.02 seconds ahead of Hin Fong Pao from Macau. With this new personal best, Capelle reached 49th place out of 66 participants. A few days later, the Nauruer reached the semi-finals over 100 meters at the South Pacific Games in Apia, Samo, and was eliminated over 200 meters in the preliminary run. The Nauruer celebrated great successes at the Micronesian Championships in December 2007 with bronze over 60 meters , fourth place over 100 meters and gold over 400 meters and as the final runner with the mixed 800-meter relay around Dana Thoma, Deamo Baguga and Rosa Mystique Jones . Two years later, Capelle won another bronze medal in the 100 meters and the silver medal with the 4 x 100 meter relay.

Capelle comes from Buada or Boe and has been married to Aleysha Roland since January 2010. He works as a firefighter .
