John Joseph "Jack" Coughlin (born June 21, 1892 in Douro , Ontario ; † June 21, 1969 in Peterborough , Ontario) was a Canadian ice hockey player who played 19 games for the Toronto Arenas between 1912 and 1921 . Quebec Bulldogs , Canadiens de Montréal and Hamilton Tigers played in the National Hockey League as the right winger .
Career
Coughlin played between 1912 and 1916 for various amateur teams of the Ontario Hockey Association in his Canadian home province of Ontario . Only the game year 1914/15 he spent with the New York Irish-Americans in the United States Amateur Hockey Association .
For the 1916/17 season, the striker moved to the professional field when he joined the Toronto Blueshirts from the National Hockey Association and ran up for them in seven games. After the dissolution of the NHA and the founding of the National Hockey League , a newly founded franchise, the Toronto Arenas, was launched, which was made up of a large part of the former Blueshirts players. Although the Ottawa Senators had initially received the rights to the player in a dispersal draft , the new Toronto franchise received these rights back. Coughlin completed five games for the Arenas in the 1917/18 season , in which he scored his only two NHL goals. Even before the start of the play-off, which the arenas concluded by winning the Stanley Cup , Coughlin was dismissed in January 1918, but he is still counted among the official winning team today. The attacker then stopped playing ice hockey until January 1920, before moving to the Quebec Bulldogs as a free agent . After a month and nine missions, another dismissal followed and Coughlin moved to the Canadiens de Montréal league .
The time in Montreal was also short-lived. This transferred him before the beginning of the 1920/21 season with George Prodgers and Joe Matte to the Hamilton Tigers , who received Billy Coutu on loan . In return, Harry Mummery , Jack McDonald and Dave Ritchie switched to the Canadiens. With the Hamilton Tigers Coughlin denied his two last NHL appearances. As a result, he tried again to switch to the amateur field, but the Ontario Hockey Association denied him resumption for unknown reasons.
Coughlin then worked at General Electric until he retired in 1960 . He died on his 77th birthday in Peterborough, Ontario.
