Jack Maxsted
John "Jack" Albert Maxsted (born April 30, 1916 in Kingston upon Thames , Surrey , England , † September 2001 in Bath , Somerset , England) was a British art director and set designer who won an Oscar for best production design .
Life
Maxsted began his work as an art director and set designer in 1939 in films such as Sons of the Sea and Inquest, and until 1979 he was involved in the production of more than 40 films.
In 1972 he won an Oscar for best production design with John Box , Vernon Dixon , Ernest Archer and Gil Parrondo for the historical film Nikolaus und Alexandra (1971) directed by Franklin J. Schaffner about Tsar Nicholas II of Russia and his wife Alexandra with Michael Jayston , Janet Suzman and Roderic Noble in the lead roles .
