Jacob Luke Butterfield (born June 10, 1990 in Bradford ) is an English football player on the position of midfielder who is under contract with the second division club Derby County .

Career

Barnsley FC

Jacob Butterfield, who came from his own youth academy, made his debut on August 29, 2007 for Barnsley FC in a 2-0 away defeat at Newcastle United in the second round of the English League Cup . After three league appearances in the 2007/08 and 2008/09 seasons , he came in the Football League Championship 2009/10 to twenty missions and scored his first league goal. After two more seasons in the lower third of the table in the English second division , the 22-year-old Butterfield decided not to extend his expiring contract in the summer of 2012.

Norwich City and Middlesbrough FC

On July 3, 2012, the first division club Norwich City announced the commitment of the midfielder, who was only ready for his new club at the end of September 2012 due to a knee injury suffered in December 2011. Due to a lack of playing time at his new club, Butterfield moved to second division Bolton Wanderers on November 8, 2012 , for whom he played eight league games in just under two months. After his return to Norwich in the meantime, another loan to the second division club Crystal Palace FC followed in mid-January 2013

In early September 2013 Jacob Butterfield moved to Middlesbrough FC and signed a three-year contract with the second division club. In the Football League Championship 2013/14 he scored three goals in thirty-one league games for the twelfth table of the English second division.

Huddersfield Town and Derby County

On August 13, 2014 Butterfield changed clubs again and joined Huddersfield Town . He was able to score six goals for his new team in the 2014/15 season and was voted the best player of his team in the past season due to his good performance at the end of the season.

As of September 1, 2015, Derby County announced the signing of the midfielder for a transfer fee of approximately £ 4 million. With County Butterfield (38 games / 7 goals) moved into the play-offs as fifth in the Football League Championship 2015/16 , but failed there prematurely at Hull City . In the following season he missed the intended promotion to the Premier League with the ambitious second division club as the table ninth .
