Jacob Nozeman ( also Jakobus Noseman * August 30, 1693 in Hamburg , † October 10, 1745 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch composer, violinist and organist.

Life

Jacob Nozeman was the son of the travel actor Johannes Nozeman, who was born during a guest performance in Hamburg. Nozeman grew up in The Hague and Leiden , places where his father mostly worked. One brother, Gillis Nozeman, was a dance master in Leiden. Jacob Nozeman settled in Amsterdam in 1710, shortly after his father's death. From 1714 to 1716 he was a violinist at the Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam , in 1719 he was appointed organist at the Remonstranten Church in the Keizersgracht , which he held until his death. A short time afterwards, Christian Friedrich Fritzsch made a copperplate by Nozeman.

One of his sons was Cornelius Nozeman (1721–1785), who was a well-known preacher, naturalist and ornithologist.

His violin sonatas are in the typical style of the first half of the 18th century and consist of a mixture of church and chamber sonatas. The op. 1 collection is in the Italian style and all sonatas are in minor keys. The sonatas op. 2 are typical of the transition from baroque to pre-classical and are all in major keys. In 1782 Michel Corrette was still using fragments from Nozemans op. 2 in his L'art de se perfectionner dans le violon . Nozemans op. 4 from 1742, La bella tedesca (24 Pastorelles, Muzettes en Paisennes per il harpsichord) has been lost, as are the five sonatas for cello and Bc op. 5. Nozeman also set more than 30 songs by various authors to music.
