Jacopo Gattilusio

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jacopo Gattilusio (* around 1390; † 1428 ) was Archon ( regent or lord) of Lesbos from 1403 or 1404 to 1428 .

He came from the respected Genoese patrician family Gattilusio and was the son of Archon Francesco II Gattilusio of Lesbos, and his wife, an unnamed princess of Byzantium . After the death of his father, he succeeded him as Lord of Lesbos. Little is known about the reign of Jacopo Gattilusio. Until 1408 he was under the tutelage of his uncle Niccolo I. Gattilusio , Lord of Ainos . Presumably around 1410 Jacopo married Valentina Doria from the Genoese noble family of Doria . Since this marriage remained childless, after Jacopo's death in 1428 his younger brother Dorino , lord of Phokaia , became the new archon of Lesbos.
