Jacques Bernard d'Anselme
Jacques Bernard d'Anselme (born July 22, 1740 in Apt , † September 17, 1814 in Paris ) was a French Général de division .
Life
At the age of five, Anselme joined the Régiment de Souvré as enfant de troupe , in which his father served with the rank of captain . After his military training, he was soon able to distinguish himself through bravery. He fought in Corsica in the Seven Years' War in 1768/69 .
After a few promotions, he served from 1780 with the rank of lieutenant colonel in the war of independence against the British.
On April 1, 1791, Anselme joined the staff of Marshal Jean-Baptiste-Donatien de Vimeur, comte de Rochambeau , as an aide-de-camp . As such, he was able to distinguish himself several times through courage and bravery in the Revolutionary Wars .
From November 7th to December 25th, 1792 d'Anselme was de facto commander of the Armée d'Italie (Italian Army) even if he was not confirmed as such.
With effect from February 14, 1793, the welfare committee noticed Anselme because of his allegedly royalist sentiments; he was suspended and imprisoned. The revolt of the Thermidorians on July 27, 1794 (→ 9th Thermidor ) probably saved him from the guillotine . On October 15, 1795, he was rehabilitated and officially retired. Anselme died at the age of 74 on September 17, 1814 and found his final resting place on the Cimetière Père Lachaise .
