Jaques Darnaud

Jacques Darnaud (born January 8, 1758 in Bricy , † March 3, 1830 in Paris ) was a French général de brigade in the infantry .

Life

On August 10, 1777, Darnaud joined the army as a volunteer at the age of nineteen. He was soon able to distinguish himself through bravery in the Revolutionary Wars and was also quickly promoted. From September 17, 1787 he fought in the rank of sergent chief and five years later he was a lieutenant .

Darnaud took u. a. participated in the siege of Mainz (→ Republic of Mainz ) and fought at Hondschoote (September 8, 1793) and Wattignies (October 15/16, 1793).

After further promotions, Darnaud took u in the following year. a. participated in fights at Tourcoing (May 17-18, 1794) and Fleurus (June 26, 1794).

Later, at Napoleon's request , he switched to the Italian Army and in 1796 took part in the occupation of Modena and the associated duchy (→ Cispadan Republic ). He also fought on the Trebbia (June 17/19, 1799) and Novi (August 25, 1799).

After the Battle of Waterloo (June 18, 1815), Darnaud became part of King Louis XVIII. and in 1824 also from his successor Karl X. At this time, however, he had already resigned from all his offices and retired into private life. Jacques Darnaud died at the age of 72 on March 3, 1830 in Paris, where he found his final resting place.
