In his contribution More Apparent Than Being , Frankenberger calls for the EU's ability to act in foreign, security and defense policy to be strengthened. The EU needs a "fundamental understanding of its members about their foreign policy and strategic interests, their pooling and strategies for their implementation". “Anyone who is convinced that there is or should be added European value will also invest in European foreign and security policy. What the Europeans have done so far to set up a crisis reaction force - according to their own guidelines and schedules - is at best a beginning - a beginning which, by the way, can hardly hide the gap between rhetoric and willingness to finance. "
In the context of the Crimean crisis in 2014, he stated:
“The NSA activities have fueled an anti-American annoyance in Europe and especially in Germany, which is reminiscent of the clash over the Iraq policy a good ten years ago and which is reflected in the attitude towards Putin's approach: In this country, the Russian President finds a lot of understanding and downright compassion. "
Media studies analysis and criticism
In Uwe Krüger's study of the influence of elites on leading media , Frankenberger is counted among the journalists most closely linked to so-called elites . Especially in the areas of security, defense and foreign deployments of the Bundeswehr, it is evident that his articles reflect the discourse of the elites, whose arguments he disseminates and promotes more military engagement. In this context, Albrecht Müller chose the Nazi term of " harmonization of important leading media organized close to the US ". In the linguistic analysis of a Frankenberger commentary, a student demonstrated a subliminally tendentious representation: “... a serious topic development (can be recognized) only with great difficulty. First and foremost, there are descriptive elements, combined with sometimes arbitrarily expressed claims, which, however, on superficial examination seem factually argumentative and are based on the implicit value basis of a Russian government, which is fundamentally to be mistrusted. "
Frankenberger's network with think tanks and political elites was criticized on April 29, 2014 by the satirical program Die Anstalt .
