Jacques Herbillon (born June 18, 1928 in Romain , Marne , † January 15, 2011 in Verzenay ) was a French boxer . He was French champion of professional welterweight boxers .

Career

Jacques Herbillon started boxing in his home town of Chalons-en-Champagne in 1943 . In his amateur days he fought his way to the top French, but failed at his main rival Charles Humez when it came to qualifying for bigger tasks. In total, he played 80 fights as an amateur.

In 1949 he joined the professional boxers. He was a member of the "Ring Regional de Champagne" boxing stable in Chalons-en-Champagne throughout his active time. His managers in those years were Marcel Thil and Marcel Dalsheimer. He played his first professional fight on November 19, 1949 in Chalons-en-Champagne. He was points winner in the lightweight over his compatriot Maurice Maury. He had to accept his first defeat on February 11, 1950 in Chalons-en-Champagne, when he was against Augustin Ussin by techn. KO lost. In the following years, however, he fought his way into the French top class by winning many fights. He developed into a tough "puncher" who won more than half of his victorious fights early.

On May 8, 1952 Jacques Herbillon fought in the sports hall at the radio tower in Berlin against the German lightweight champion from Bamberg Hans Häfner and defied this from a draw.

In Reims , Jacques Herbillon was the first French champion on October 3, 1953 with a victory over Jacques Prigent in the lightweight. On July 16, 1954, he got the chance to fight for the European Championship title (EBU) against the Italian Duilio Loi , one of the world's best lightweight boxers at the Milan Vigorellibahn . He lost this fight, which went over the full distance of 15 laps, on points. After this fight he switched to welterweight because he could no longer bring the weight limit for the lightweight class. The French lightweight championship title was of course lost.

On November 24, 1955 Jacques Herbillon was again French champion, now welterweight, by winning points over Sauveur Chiocca in the Salle Wagram in Paris. He suffered a surprising loss of points on December 31, 1955 in Reims in a fight against the German Siegfried Burrow that was not about a title. On February 26, 1956 he lost in Paris by a defeat against Valere Benedetto, the French championship title in his first title defense.

He then took this title back on February 15, 1958 in Chalons-en-Champagne by winning points over Valere Benedetto and defended this title on June 14, 1958 in Saint-Brieuc with a point victory over Gaston Mathieu. On December 26, 1958 Jacques Herbillon had the chance again to become European welterweight champion (EBU) in Palazzo dello Sport in Milan. He fought there against Emilio Marconi , but lost this fight on points.

Then he managed to successfully defend the French welterweight title three times. On February 9, 1959, a draw against Maurice Auzel in the Palais des Sports in Paris and a draw against Michel Lambordet on April 11, 1959 in Besançon. On May 9, 1959, he defeated Michel Francois on points in Saint-Dizier. He finally lost his French championship title on June 6, 1959 in Besançon by losing points to Michel Lombardet. This fight was also the last in his career. He then resigned.
